ITHACA -- David Muir returned to his alma mater yesterday to share an inspirational message. Muir, a 1995 graduate of the Park School of Communications at Ithaca College, was invited to give the commencement address before more than 1,400 graduates and their guests.

To complete the repairs, additional parts will be installed at the transmitter on Wednesday. SYRACUSE -- Top journalists from Syracuse and surrounding markets gathered for the Syracuse Press Club's 33rd annual Scholarship and Professional Recognition Awards Dinner last night at Drumlins Country Club in Syracuse. Public stations WRVO and WAER dominated the radio categories, while there were plenty of ties for winners in the television categories.
CINCINNATI -- Former WSYR570 sports director and WTVH-5 sportscaster Dan Hoard has been tapped by the NFL's Cincinnati Bengals for radio play-by-play duties starting with the team's preseason games this summer. He'll be joining fellow SU grad Dave Lapham, who will be entering his 26th season providing color commentary.
SYRACUSE -- It's "two for one" Picture of the Week today -- we're taking a flashback field trip and plugging a good cause at the same time. This, after your editor recently heard for the first time about one local TV news anchor's efforts to help pets in times of medical need.
SYRACUSE -- Matthew Benedict, the drunk driver convicted of killing former WSYR radio reporter and WTVH sports anchor Bill Leaf in 2006, could be granted parole this fall. But Bill's sister Maria -- also a former local broadcaster -- has launched an online petition to keep Benedict behind bars.
