Updated 6:20pm - In the rush to get this done before heading out to Thanksgiving festivities, your editor forgot to insert the full-size photo into the article. It's here now -- our apologies!
AUBURN -- For our second week in a row, thanks to your reader submissions, we have a "classic" Picture of the Week! This one comes to us from Rudy Paolangeli, the former GM and morning man at WAUB in Auburn. It's a photo from a memorable promotion he did for the station back in 1960.
UTICA-ROME -- We already told you about the battle Time Warner is facing with Sinclair-owned Syracuse TV stations WSYT and WNYS. Now, the cable giant is reportedly in a dispute that could potentially result in Utica NBC affiliate WKTV being taken off the lineup.
SYRACUSE -- MOViN 100.3/96.5 (WMVN) will be adding The Remix Top 30 Countdown to its weekend lineup starting this Friday. Station manager Sam Furco tells CNYRadio.com the show, hosted by Hollywood Hamilton of New York City's WKTU, will air every Friday from 7-10pm.
SYRACUSE -- Starting tomorrow at noon, owners of HDRadio tuners will be able to tune in holiday-themed jazz anytime, night or day. Classic FM (WCNY) is offering "The Sounds of Christmas Jazz" non-stop through Christmas Day on its HD3 stations in Syracuse, Utica and Watertown.
SYRACUSE -- Two big announcements from Carrie Lazarus on tonight's edition of NewsChannel 9 at 6:00. First up, veteran anchor Rod Wood's return to the ABC affiliate has been delayed by a week. Second, Carrie's now anchoring from the newsroom as the station is updating it's news set. (Could this be for the eventual launch of local HD?)
SYRACUSE -- After almost a year off the air, low-power analog television station WMBO-LP is back, reports a CNYRadio.com and CNYTVNews.com reader who used to run his own local media website. Since the station is transmitting on analog TV channel 6, the audio can be heard with an ordinary radio at 87.7 FM.
SYRACUSE -- Based on how things went last year in Syracuse, we expected Clear Channel's Y94FM (WYYY) would have gone all-Christmas on about November 11th, but the station held off more than a week longer this year, making the switch late last week.
SYRACUSE -- Stories in the national trades report a big shakeup at syndicated talk host Michael Smerconish's home station in Philadelphia -- starting in 2011, he'll be on the air from 3-7pm there. But, his midday talk show will still air live from noon to 3pm, of which the first two hours are carried locally by 105.9 The Big Talker (WXTL).
UTICA/ROME -- It's been awhile since we've had a "classic" Picture of the Week! Today, we're going back to 1962, with a shot submitted by CNYRadio.com reader Jeff Moulton. It's a "terrible tie contest" held by WTLB back in the early 1960s.
