SYRACUSE -- A fake screen shot from "Back to the Future Part II" had everyone thinking this past Wednesday was the day Marty McFly visited in the DeLorean... and (thankfully) fans were quick to point out the hoax: McFly warped to 2015. But it was the real deal last night, when "DJ Sticky Fingaz" and "MC Hogweed" took Syracuse back to the 90s.
UTICA -- Our condolences to the family and friends of Frank Gruenewald, who passed away this week at the age of 86. Gruenewald started his broadcast career as continuity director at WKTV in 1953, and eventually became general manager of Harron Cable, staying with the company --which became Adelphia Communications along the way -- through 2002.
Updated 5:40pm with press release -- SYRACUSE -- Regular Post-Standard guest columnist Saundra Smokes is adding some radio to her writing duties. This Saturday, she'll launch a weekly one-hour talk show on Clear Channel urban-formatted Power 620 (WHEN). The new show will focus on topics of interest to women.
SYRACUSE -- If you're among the few holdouts that still think of Fox as the "fourth network" in television, this might turn your head: after many years on CBS5 (WTVH), highly-rated syndicated game shows Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! are moving to Fox 68 (WSYT) this fall.
SYRACUSE -- A quick update for fans of Classic FM (WCNY-FM) morning show host Bill Shedden. Earlier this month, we heard from readers asking about Shedden's prolonged absence. Tonight, colleague Marie Lamb shared word that Shedden has returned to his post at Classic FM. She says he's thankful for the concern shown by his listeners. Welcome back, Bill!
SYRACUSE -- You may have noticed some new faces on local television newscasts... and a familiar face on a different channel. The Syracuse Press Club reports that CNY Central (WSTM/WTVH/WSTQ-LP) has hired two reporters to replace Chris McGrath and Caitlin Nuclo.
Readers, just wanted to provide an update about some recent developments here at CNYRadio.com and CNYTVNews.com. These updates may or may not necessarily matter to you, but in the interest of full disclosure, I wanted to throw together a brief summary.
SYRACUSE -- When you think of "Ted and Amy" from 93Q (WNTQ), you usually think of the morning co-hosts as a pair, since they usually appear on-air and at various community events together. Earlier this month, Amy Robbins had the limelight to herself for a little bit, appearing as the Grand Marshal in a local parade.
SYRACUSE -- The Syracuse Crunch, the AHL team which recently switched its NHL affilation from the Anaheim Ducks to the Tampa Bay Lightning, have named Dan D'Uva as the team's new radio voice. D'Uva replaces Jason Lockhart, who called the team's games for the past two seasons.
SYRACUSE -- The two-year affilation between The Score 1260 (WSKO) and Yahoo Sports Radio (formerly Sporting News Radio) won't be reaching a third anniversary. Cumulus Media and CBS Sports are launching a new radio network, and WSKO is said to be one of nearly 70 Cumulus stations who will be on board for the network's January 2013 debut.
