SYRACUSE -- More than two years after we reported plans were approved to demolish the former WFBL buildings on South Warren Street... we've learned apparently they weren't totally approved.  But now, two more layers of red tape have been peeled away, making it more likely the buildings will soon be cleared to make way for a parking lot.

SYRACUSE -- Tomorrow will be a very special day for Leo Rayhill. The Sounds of Jazz host will be celebrating 50 years since he got his start in radio. Back then, he was at the former WQSR in Syracuse. These days, you'll find Rayhill on WCNY-HD3 every day, and on WCNY-FM's main channel on Sundays.

SYRACUSE -- The winners for this year's Syracuse Press Club awards have been announced.  On the radio side, public broadcasters led the pack.  In TV, it's a neck-and-neck race between WSYR-TV and WSTM-TV.  And we're also very happy to report CNYRadio.com appears on the award list as well.

SYRACUSE -- Congratulations tonight to NewsChannel 9 (WSYR-TV) co-anchors Rod Wood and Carrie Lazarus.  They'll soon be regarded among the likes of nationally-known journalists like Walter Cronkite and Barbara Walters.  They're in the 2011 class being inducted into the New York State Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame this June.

SYRACUSE -- When CNYRadio.com marked its 10th anniversary last month, we asked many longtime local radio personalities and managers where they see radio headed in the next ten years.  Near the end of that article, we had a quote from 93Q (WNTQ) morning host Ted Long, who suggested we “feature more ‘Picture Of The Week’ flashbacks to when I was thin and had hair.” Well, as the saying goes: ask and you shall receive!

UTICA/ROME -- Almost eight years since Clear Channel shut down the newsroom at ABC affiliate WUTR Channel 20, the station's current management announced today plans to revive the newsroom across the street from longtime market dominator WKTV.  Local newscasts will also be added to the lineups of Fox 33 (WFXV) and MyNetwork 11 (WPNY-LP).

NEW YORK CITY -- It was just over a year ago that former WSYR morning news anchor Alex Silverman announced he would be leaving WSYR after accepting a position at Seattle's KIRO.  Today, we've learned Silverman is headed back to the east coast -- for a new job in New York City at WCBS Newsradio 880.

ITHACA/CORTLAND -- The Cayuga Radio Group of Saga Communications has an opening for a programming and promotions person.  We're told the lucky candidate will replace Jason Kester, who originally planned to leave in December, but he had delayed his departure until the spring.

SYRACUSE -- Three people who work in local television are among the winners of the Club Awards announced late last week by the Syracuse Press Club.  They include an anchor from WSTM, a photographer from WSYR-TV and a producer from WCNY.

UTICA/ROME -- In less than two hours, "Flashback Saturday Night" host Rich Lawrence will be signing off Lite 98.7 (WLZW) for the last time.  Lawrence says he's had a blast over the past five years he had been on the station's part-time roster, but he says it's time to move on.
