SYRACUSE -- Top journalists from Syracuse and surrounding markets gathered for the Syracuse Press Club's 33rd annual Scholarship and Professional Recognition Awards Dinner last night at Drumlins Country Club in Syracuse. Public stations WRVO and WAER dominated the radio categories, while there were plenty of ties for winners in the television categories.
SYRACUSE -- The Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) 2011 Regional Edward R. Murrow Award Winners have been announced. Between radio, television and online, WCNY-TV is the only local station to appear on the list. "Our Veterans and Their Families: 21st Century Challenges" took home the regional Murrow in the Video News Documentary category.

570 WSYR's news director and director of programming, Bill Carey, has been honored by the Syracuse Press Club with a Bliven-Ganley-Rossi Career Achievement Award. Carey returned to radio last year after a long run in television news at WTVH TV 5 and WIXT TV 9.
The Syracuse radio community said goodbye to several broadcast veterans this year.
A couple months ago, 570 WSYR's afternoon newscaster Kevin Schenk started appearing as the weekend news anchor over at WSTM-TV 3. Schenk has since given up the radio microphone and is now a full-time member of the channel 3 news staff.
