UTICA -- With just over a week until "Fireworks Over Utica," city officials have given their blessing to details surrounding the event. The event is being organized by Strategic Partnership Services, a subsidiary of Galaxy Communications, who owns WOUR, WUMX and other stations in the market. There were initially some safety concerns about plans to launch the fireworks from the roof of a downtown parking garage. More from the Utica Observer-Dispatch.
UTICA/ROME -- The station located at 107.3 on the FM dial in the Utica-Rome market has certainly run the gamut of formats. Today, it carries satellite-driven religious music. Before that, WRCK's longest-running brand was "Rock 107." Even earlier, the station ran country as WTLB-FM, but before any of that... there was WZOW-FM.
SYRACUSE -- A few months after returning to a prior religious format, WVOA 105.1 has joined some of its sister stations in carrying the syndicated Radio Disney format. This brings Radio Disney back to the FM dial in Syracuse for the first time since it was replaced by the MOViN format (WOLF-FM/WWLF-FM) a few years ago.

SYRACUSE -- A radiothon to rebuild a burned-down city school playground yesterday raised "at least $20,000," according to Newsradio 570 WSYR. The radiothon started with WSYR host Joe Galuski at 6am and ran through the conclusion of the Jim Reith show at 7pm. Yesterday's effort covers about a third of what was spent when the playground at Van Duyn Elementary was originally built in 1995.
SYRACUSE -- WCNY has hired Susan Arbetter, the former host of public TV's New York Now, as part of a "major expansion" of news and public affairs programming offered on WCNY television and radio, as well as the stations' website.
SYRACUSE -- Love Radio 105.1 WVOA/DeRuyter is back on the air Monday evening, following an outage that lasted for at least part of the weekend. Co-owner Sam Furco responded to a CNYRadio.com inquiry about the station's status late Monday night, but did not comment on the exact cause or length of the outage. Our thanks to observant CNYRadio.com readers who alerted us to the outage on Sunday.
