[Updated 11/8 with arrangements and obituary] SYRACUSE -- It's a sad day for the local TV news community: after battling cancer for more than a decade, longtime NewsChannel 9 (WSYR-TV) photojournalist Eddie Jones passed away on Sunday. Throughout it all, he maintained the positive attutide many knew him for, and continued to work, punching the clock as recently as last week.
SYRACUSE -- Audiences who rely on Verizon FiOS for local TV are without ABC affiliate NewsChannel 9 (WSYR-TV) for a second week. It's part of a nationwide dispute between Verizon and WSYR-TV's parent company, Texas-based Nexstar Media Group.
SYRACUSE -- Our condolences go out to 93Q (WNTQ) morning co-host Ted Long after the station announced the passing of his wife, Barbara "Bobbie" Long on Wednesday. It's the unfortunate end of a story listeners had been following since Ted recently announced his wife had been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cirrhosis of the liver over the summer.
UTICA - Condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Eric J. Price. The late 1980s DJ for the former Rock 107 died last week at 54.
SYRACUSE -- Although we previously reported on Amanda Hull being named co-anchor of Today in Central New York on NBC3 (WSTM-TV), a new press release from CNY Central shares more details and news of another promotion: reporter Maggie DesRosiers is also moving up to the anchor desk.
UTICA -- Congratulations to "Genesee" Joe Trisolino, who marked 30 years working in local radio today. Along with being the guest of honor at a listener appreciation party, the station manager and afternoon host at 92.7 The Drive (WXUR) received various official accolades marking the occasion.
ALBANY -- Several commercial, public and college broadcasters brought some hardware home from the 2022 "Excellence in Broadcasting" awards. The New York State Broadcasters' Association says the awards recognize "the outstanding work broadcasters do throughout the state of New York to keep viewers informed, engage conversation and promote local business." SYRACUSE — Following the recent exit of Tom Mitchell earlier this month after 26 years at the cluster which includes 93Q (WNTQ) and 95X (WAQX), his replacements — three of them — have been named.
