This edition of Picture of the Week is a no-brainer... we had to get something from K-Rockathon XIII, held last Saturday at the Cayuga County Fairgrounds in Weedsport.
CNYRadio.com and CNYTVNews.com share a new Picture of the Week every Monday at 7:00am. We're always looking for reader submissions -- radio or TV, current events or blasts from the past. Send those shots to cnyradio@cnyradio.com.
This edition of Picture of the Week is a no-brainer... we had to get something from K-Rockathon XIII, held last Saturday at the Cayuga County Fairgrounds in Weedsport.
It's America's Biggest 15K Road Race, with over 10,000 runners, including Governor David A. Paterson. Nearly every radio station in the Utica-Rome market was there, so we put everyone's name in a hat and KISS-FM came out as the station to represent the Boilermaker in this installment of the Picture of the Week.
Contrary to the popular saying... it doesn't stay in Vegas if you post it on the station website! WFRY morning co-host James Pond alerted us to some pictures from a recent trip to Vegas after the show was nominated for an award from the Academy of Country music this spring.
Many folks in radio don't get the 4th of July off, so we're not taking it off either! We're going back 10 years for this Picture of the Week, the rebuilding of the WTNY/Watertown tower, after it was destroyed in an unforgettable ice storm earlier that year.
There can only be one Picture of the Week, but we had two major radio events on the same weekend earlier this month. WFRG's Frogfest won the coin toss to be the POTW last week. This week, it's 93Q Balloonfest at Jamesville Beach Park.
Last weekend marked the 20th anniversary of Big Frog 104's "Frogfest Music Festival" at Verona Beach State Park. Instead of going for the usual "air staff plus celebrity" shot, we found a few listeners who went the extra mile to get into the Frog spirit.
People who work in morning radio seem to have different strategies when it comes to sleeping. Some force themselves to bed at 8pm, even when it's still light out. Others sleep in split shifts. But the crew at MOViN 100.3/96.5 seems to have figured out how to sneak in a few winks on the job!
A one-day radiothon on Power 106.9 (WPHR) is being credited with saving Syracuse's Juneteenth Celebration from being severely cut back this year. The radiothon was held last Sunday at the Clear Channel studios on Plum Street in Syracuse.
Even if you're not a longtime Mets fan, viewers of the sitcom "Seinfeld" should recognize this guy, who posed for a photo with Bug Country (99.7 WBGK/Newport Village) morning man Dave Silvers at spring training in Florida earlier this spring.
The 3rd annual Bill Leaf Kickball Tournament was held at Onondaga Lake Park on May 17th. The event is a fundraiser for a scholarship named in memory of the WSYR News reporter who was killed by a drunk driver in 2006. (Updated at 1:50pm with complete photo caption.)
