Updated 9/9/09 SYRACUSE -- If you're a fan of "The Funk Show" on Syracuse University's NPR affiliate WAER 88.3, bad news. Last weekend's show was the final show. The hosts say they were notified by management -- via e-mail -- that they're being replaced by NPR network programming.
SYRACUSE -- For years it was somewhat ironic: the urban station that barely had a decent signal in the urban area it was intended to serve. But now, Power 106.9 (WPHR) sounds a lot more... powerful. (Go ahead and groan at the pun... it's been a long week, it's Friday evening, we couldn't resist.)
NEW YORK CITY -- Don Imus will be back on TV again very soon. The syndicated morning radio host's show will be simulcast by the Fox Business Network, beginning October 5th. As part of the deal, radio listeners can expect to hear "The I-Man" talking money a little more often.
SYRACUSE -- The sudden simulcast change on WSEN(AM) yesterday morning is the first step towards a brand new format at 1050 on the AM dial. That's what CNYRadio.com has learned this morning from General Manager Judy Kelly, two days after Leatherstocking Media Group has effectively overtaken the Buckley cluster through an LMA.
SYRACUSE -- Change is already in the air at the Buckley Radio compound in Baldwinsville, just a day after Leatherstocking Media Group's LMA on the cluster went into effect. WSEN AM and FM are no longer simulcasting the same "Classic Hits" format. Instead, WSEN 1050AM is simulcasting WFBL's "Oldies 1390" format.
SYRACUSE -- Walk Up Radio, the weekly "live to podcast" comedy show taped in front of (and steered by) a live audience is moving to a new location. The change takes effect with tonight's taping.
Updated 9/9/09 - GENEVA -- Brendan Cooper is headed to a new job in Rochester, creating an "immediate" opening for a News Director at Finger Lakes News Radio. The three-station network includes WGVA 1240 in Geneva, along with WAUB 1590 AM and 98.1 FM in Auburn.
OSWEGO/SYRACUSE -- Longtime WRVO Corporate Support Representative Tom Herbert is heading inland, away from the stiff breezes on the SUNY Oswego campus. He has accepted a similar position with the Mars Hill Network of religious-formatted stations, based in Syracuse.
Update 9/7/09 - We did not have enough people (specifically females) sign up to satisfy the minimum team size rules of the tournament, so we will not have a team. Thanks to the folks who did express an interest, and hopefully we'll be able to get a team together for next year. :-(
